WACers take over Alton Towers

**Run Alton Towers** A group of WACers travelled to Derbyshire to the Alton Towers resort for the Run Through event – Run Alton Towers – a two day extravaganza which included a 10k and a kids race on the Saturday and then a 5k and half marathon on the Sunday, all taking part around the theme park. First up was the 10k and first WAC back was Matt Webster (38:42) before Alison Armstrong (41:56), Kate Gooding (42:26) & David Powles (47:02) – shockingly there were not any PBs register all weekend due to the hilly nature of the courses, however Alison did manage to place 3rd F40 in the 10k race. Additionally, we had 7 future WACers take part in the kids race in the glorious sunshine.

Moving onto the Sunday – sunshine was no more and the rain fell…. A lot! We had 8 runners split over the two events – firstly in the 5k James Heaney & Mark Armstrong completed the course in 23:55, however the big winner was Sylvia Webster defending her 2022 crown by winning the (1st) F65 race in the time of 37:40 – Well done Sylvia! In the half marathon event we had 5 members pound the tarmac around the 13.1 mile course – joint first home was Kate Gooding and Matt Webster (1:44:33) – photographic evidence suggests Kate pipped Matt in the sprint finish! The trio of Kimberley Powles, Alison Armstrong & Zoe Webster made their way around the theme park, quickly stopping to meet the Teletubbies in CBeebies Land, before finishing the hilly route in 2:11:42.
