W/E 23.11.24 - EACCL R2, Foreign Marathon & Half & Run Brackland Forest 10k

James Heaney
First up this week on our weekly review, we look back from the week before and the mid-week activity;

**EACCL Race 2 – Mousehold Heath**
The second race of the EACCL - East Anglian Cross Country League season took place over at ⛰Mousehold Heath⛰, hosted by team Tri-Anglia. The team called in perfect cross country conditions as 🌨snow flurries🌨 greeted the WAC runners. Our first WAC lady home was Juliette Watkinson; Jet was joined by Claire Brown and Lisa Greengrass to make up our ladies A-team. In the Men’s race, David Houghton was first home followed by Will Parker, Adam Baker and David Powles to make up our Men’s scoring A-team quartet. Well done to all the runners for braving the 🥶freezing cold🥶 conditions. 🙌🏻

Next up we look at our foreign correspondents – first to 🇮🇹Florence🇮🇹 to the marathon runner that nearly didn’t happen!
**Florence Marathon**
Our very own Tracy Stevens was our representative in Tuscany – although Tracy’s journey was nearly over before it started as the security incident at South terminal at ✈️Gatwick airport✈️ meant flights were cancelled until the following day, and then 🌪Storm Bert🌪 rolled in to delay the flights due to severe 💨cross winds💨! Tracy managed to get to the Expo with less than 30 minutes to spare before it closed to collect her race number! Luckily the pain was worthwhile as Tracy was able to enjoy the 40th anniversary of the event; with the route taking the runners through much of Florence’s historical town centre steeped in art, history, culture and some amazing Italian architecture. They also run past the famous landmarks in the city, with views of the surrounding hills and countryside, along the Arno River, Cathedral Square, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio. Tracy completed the 26.2 miles in a time of 4hrs 43mins 10secs – well done Tracy and hopefully the journey home was a little bit better – great work Tracy! 🙌🏻

Second of our foreign correspondents, this time from sunny 🇪🇸Spain🇪🇸;

**Benalmádena Half Marathon**
Probably matching our very own Keith Blake in foreign excursion for running adventures this year – Anneke Cook travelled to southern Spain to take on the Benalmadena Half marathon - The out and back closed road course, along the 🏖coast road🏖, was up and down a ⛰hilly route⛰ sandwiching a middle section of two laps in and around the marina 🚤.

Anneke didn’t came back empty handed (more than the standard medal) as her time of 1hr 57mins 42secs gained her 1st F55 and an amazing 🐘elephant🐘 trophy to treasure – well done Anneke! 🙌🏻
Bit less glamorous for the last bit of this segment, we venture down the A11;

**Run Breckland Forest 10k**
The 10k trail event hosted by Run Breckland around the village of Santon Downham was completed by 3 WAC members; First WAC home was Tony Beales in a time of 49:07 (13th overall), Sam Bee (55:57) and Sarah Nelis (61:59). Luckily 🌪Storm Bert🌪 didn’t ruin the day as the runners experienced warmer than average conditions (18 degrees) after the mid-week sub-zero conditions at the XC race – Well done you three! 🙌🏻
