Firstly on our weekly review and before we get on the London Marathon, we visit a few local events. Congratulations Paul Fairchild & Kathryn Heaney who finished 4th M45 & 2nd 🥈F35 respectively in the East Coast Triathlon 🏊🏊♂️🚴♀️🚴🏃♀️🏃 Super sprint hosted by triharder . Also well done to Raymond Gayne (53:22) & Laura Seville (80:28) for taking part in the Little Lifts 10k Trail event and then the legend that is Rodney for his orienteering events over the weekend! Well done Team!
Right….. The big one: -
**TCS London Marathon 2024**
We had a large group of runners in the 🇬🇧capital🇬🇧 over the weekend and an even bigger support crew making lots of noise! The first home for WAC on Sunday was the very impressive Aidan Banfield in a time of 2:31:40 (PB 🎖️/ CR 🏅), finishing 239th overall and 206th in the male senior category – this was the first of 7 PBs 🎖️of the day but the 1st of the two club records to fall. Aidan setting the Under 25 club record and lowering his very own male overall marathon club record he set in Paris last year. Whilst on Club records, Claire Brown was at it again – this time breaking a marathon F60-64 record that has stood since Club legend Anne Martin set it back in 1999. Claire impressively took a whole 20 minutes of the time with her effort of 3:26:15 (PB 🎖️/ CR 🏅) finishing an impressive 6th place in her category for the marathon.
Aidan was followed in by Chris Gay (PB 🎖️– 2:39:16), James Fowler (PB 🎖️- 2:45:08), Josh Castlo-Hall (2:54:17), Charlie Stringer (2:55:15), David Houghton (PB 🎖️– 2:57:59), Kate Gooding (3:19:56), Adam Baker (3:23:47), Claire Brown, Robbie Starling (PB 🎖️– 3:28:43), Lisa Hall (3:45:01), Eloise Peek (3:46:04), Stuart Green (3:55:14), Caroline Pocock (PB 🎖️– 4:00:24), Keith Blake (4:16:26), Naomi Hawkins (4:21:05), Gavin Hall (4:29:56), Bethanie Weldon (4:31:56) & Sacha Jenkinson (5:43:17).
Well done to the PB achievers Chris Gay, James Fowler (in his first WAC outing – nice way to start), David Houghton, Robbie Starling and Caroline Pocock. A big well done to our first time marathoners Eloise Peek, Beth Weldon and Sacha Jenkinson who covered the distance for the first time and also achieved fantastic results!
Finally in London the legend that is Keith Blake secured his second Abbot World Marathon majors 6 star medal - the only UK entrant to achieve the 6 star accolade for the second time in this year’s race. Well done Blake.
