We started early Saturday morning with 9 members in North Norfolk on Saturday, taking part in the Positive Steps Events Norfolk Coastal Trail Marathon 2023 Half/Marathon events – 4 members took part in the Half marathon starting in Burnham Overy Staithe and finishing at Morston – Robbie Starling was first WAC home in a time of 1:52:06, quickly followed by Claire Woodcroft and Lisa Greengrass a second later – Well done Robbie for dipping for the line! Anneke Cook was our other member, finishing 1st F55-64 in 1:59:41 – well done Anneke.
We had 5 members also take on the full Marathon – starting a bit further along the coast at Holme Next-the-Sea, adding another 13.1 miles of coastal trail fun – James Birch first home for WAC in a time of 4:08:01 before David Powles, Dan Brocklehurst and Heath Alexander-Bew came in at 4:18:12. The marathon legend Gavin Hall made it 10 for the year, 2 weeks after his last, coming home in a time of 5:40:52 – two more left for his 12 in 12 challenge- great work all! Elsewhere on Saturday, the Shearers ventured into central London for the Westminster Mile – Dani Shearer completing the course in 7:57 and Ali Shearer achieving a new Club record of 5:00 for the Senior category and breaking a 20 year old record in the process. Staying in central London, however on the Sunday, Rachael Lockwood took part in the Vitality London 10,000 – whizzing around London just north of the Thames, Rachael completed the course in a time of 54:04. Lastly in the West of London, Louise Stevens took part in the Ealing Half Marathon and completed the course in a time of 99:22, another shiny PB. Next up was our current South West correspondent, Christine Williams took part in the Taunton Marathon 's Taunton 10k whilst visiting family; completing the course in a time of 55:32 and finishing 2nd F65 in the process. Slightly closer to home, Tony Beales took part in the Langham 10k in North Essex - our very excited cross country captain (the season is nearly here Tony!) completed the course in a time of 45:35 – perfect preparation for the upcoming XC season – bring on the trails! Our club member Jamie Harris took part in the local Duathlon at Lingwood hosted by Tri-Anglia – finishing 15th overall and 1st M25 – well done Jamie. Out in West Norfolk we had 8 runners making their way around the Royal estate in Sandringham for the Run Sandringham 10k event hosted by Good Running Events Ltd. – first home for WAC was Jacob Kenworthy (37:09) and finishing 4th overall. First female was Caroline Pocock in a time of 50:28. A bit further from home, Craig Skipper took part in the Cumberland Valley TrailFest half marathon in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania whilst in the United States of America. Craig finished in a time of 1:43:55, finishing 5th overall and 3rd M40-49. Well done all! #TeamWAC
